THIMUN 2025
From January 27 to 31, 2025, 17 students from Torgelow had the unique opportunity to participate in the 57th The Hague Model United Nations (THIMUN) conference. to participate in The Hague. In two delegations – Finland and Interpol – they represented their positions on global challenges and delved deep into the world of international diplomacy.
Artificial Intelligence in Focus
This year’s main theme was “Impact of AI on Humanity,” and the debates focused on central questions regarding the effects of artificial intelligence on society, the economy, and security. Our delegates, for example, engaged in intense discussions about data protection and ethical aspects in healthcare, AI in the financial world, its misuse by terrorist groups, the impact of artificial intelligence on the labor market, fake news and disinformation through AI, and even the use of robotics in the military.
In addition to the main topic, other current geopolitical issues were also addressed, including the situation in New Caledonia, measures against domestic violence and femicide, as well as the situation in Cyprus.
Experience diplomacy up close
A special highlight was the press conference by Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp and Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans at the launch of the campaign “NATO and the Netherlands” in preparation for the NATO summit, which will take place in June 2025 at the World Forum in The Hague. Our students were able to gain insight into real international politics.
A week full of experiences
In addition to the intense debates, the conference also provided an opportunity to explore The Hague, often under sunny skies. As always, the week flew by too quickly, but our students returned with valuable experiences, new friendships, and an even stronger enthusiasm for international politics. We are already looking forward to next year!
