Schloss Torgelow: School

Talent promotion

Understanding talent as an opportunity

Highly gifted and motivated students often do not receive the attention they deserve in most schools today. Large class sizes, the resentment of classmates, and a misunderstood notion of equality of opportunity result in gifted and capable students often being under-challenged in the German school system.

Developing potential

Schloss Torgelow offers students the opportunity to develop their potential in a high-performing community. They can learn up to four foreign languages here, take advantage of scientific additional offerings, and set their own areas of focus.

In small classes with a maximum of 12 students, the teacher has the opportunity to teach in a differentiated manner, address the needs of each individual, and take into account that talent cannot be addressed in a general way, but only individually and empathetically.

Torgelower students enjoy school because we challenge them and believe in their abilities. Here, they receive the recognition from teachers and peers that is often denied to them at other schools.

Promotion of gifted students

Highly gifted students also find their place in Torgelow. They can flexibly skip grades, distinguish themselves in extracurricular projects, or collaborate with classmates as project leaders. Workshops, lectures, and scientific projects provide additional challenges.

For grades 5 to 7, we offer a Mind Factory. Here, students with special linguistic and mathematical talents are specifically supported in weekly additional hours. Schloss Torgelow is also a mobile learning location of the University of Rostock. Interested students in middle and upper school have the opportunity to participate in the junior study programs of the University of Rostock.

As part of the “Torgelow Science Academy,” we invite scientists who already know how to inspire the youngest for science. In selecting the topics, students can have a say in which areas particularly interest them.

Participation in competitions such as “business@school,” “Youth Research,” and “Youth Makes Music” is part of the school concept.

The future in sight

We place special emphasis on developing a career perspective. To give our students an impression of what to expect in their studies or careers, internships and career information events are part of the upper school program.

In collaboration with professors and experienced practitioners, the Torgelow students receive a detailed insight into the content of the most important degree programs and the tasks and requirements of individual professions. At Career Day, we provide a platform for private and public universities to present themselves and their degree programs. This allows our students to decide early on which option is the right one for them. Additional workshops or weekly high school diploma projects offer our upper secondary students the opportunity to acquire additional qualifications in business administration, law, memory techniques, biology, or rhetoric.

In collaboration with external institutes, we also offer seminars on topics such as presentation techniques, time and learning management, effective communication, and targeted application training for selection interviews at universities.
