business@school: Strong start in the first phase
An impressive start to the new round of business@school: Eight teams, four presentations, and a winner who narrowly triumphed. Our students demonstrated strong analyses and a great understanding of economics.
A competition that promotes economic thinking
The business@school competition by the Boston Consulting Group has been a regular part of the school year at Schloss Torgelow for many years. This internationally renowned consulting firm provides students with a practical insight into economic contexts and entrepreneurial work. In three challenging phases, participants learn to analyze companies, understand business models, and develop their own business ideas.
For 18 years now, Schloss Torgelow has been represented and has made it to the national finals in Munich multiple times. This school year, the school is participating stronger than ever before. Eight teams with a total of 34 students and four teachers are taking on the challenge.
The structure of the competition: Three phases full of challenges.
The first phase focuses on the analysis of a publicly traded company. The teams select their own company, research markets, key figures, revenue, and profit, and examine the stock price development. In the second phase, the focus shifts to a small or medium-sized enterprise. The third phase culminates in the peak. Here, the young people develop their own business idea, which they present with a complete business plan. The best team represents the school at the regional final in Berlin.
Presentations at a high level
On November 6, 2025, the teams presented their results from the first phase. Four groups qualified for the presentations, having been selected in a video competition beforehand. They presented their analyses on Rheinmetall, Bayer, O2, and Cheplapharm.
The teams worked as follows: Team Rheinmetall: Hulda, Marla, Constantin, and Herrmann Team Bayer: Johanna, Rolf, Ray, Georg, and Sam Team O2: Willi, Ferdinand, Julian, and Gabor Team Cheplapharm: Lucas, Hannah, Konstantin, Jakob, and Hark
With impressive confidence, clear structure, and a very good understanding of economic connections, all groups convinced during their 15-minute presentations. Afterwards, they faced a demanding question round from the jury, which further examined their expertise and analytical skills.
A jury with expert knowledge
The evaluations were carried out by an experienced jury consisting of Manja Wyk, managing director of Landhaus Schönhof, Reimo Boese, financial advisor from Waren, and Mario Lehmann from the sponsoring family and management of the Schloss Torgelow Boarding School.
The jury highlighted the high standard of all the presentations and emphasized that in other years, each of the four teams could have won. Only after intense discussions did they reach a decision.
Congratulations to the winning team.
In the end, the Cheplapharm team won narrowly. We warmly congratulate Hannah, Lucas, Konstantin, Jakob, and Hark on this success. Their confident demeanor and deep understanding of the selected company impressed the jury.
Outlook on Phase Three
The successful start and strong participation create great anticipation for the upcoming phases. The supervising teachers are particularly excited about the third phase, which will take place on April 17, 2026. This phase will focus on the development of individual business ideas and their presentation to another panel of experts.
The business@school competition showcases year after year the potential in our students. Their enthusiasm, commitment, and willingness to engage with complex economic topics make this competition a special highlight of the school year.
