Study and career orientation at Schloss Torgelow: How to successfully master an application?
As part of the career orientation classes at the Schloss Torgelow boarding school, we gained fascinating insights into the topic of “Successful Applications” through a presentation by Matthias Petri. The owner of the agency “4eck Media” highlighted the strategies and details that are crucial for job searching and applications, leaving a lasting impression.
From job searching to applying
At the beginning of the lecture, Mr. Petri explained how to effectively search for suitable jobs. He emphasized the importance of personal contacts, which according to statistics account for 85% of all job placements, and gave tips on how to build personal relationships with decision-makers in companies. He also pointed out the changes brought about by the increasing use of artificial intelligence, which affects certain professions. With concrete examples from his agency, he illustrated which jobs could be replaced by AI and which industries would remain secure in the long term.
What matters
A highlight was the discussion of typical application mistakes. Using real examples, Mr. Petri illustrated what matters: an interesting resume, a professional photo, and a flawless cover letter with individual reference to the company. His tips on the design and structure of application documents, which are specifically aimed at standing out from the crowd, were particularly exciting.
The job interview – Details make the difference
Another focus was on the job interview. Mr. Petri emphasized how even small details – such as the choice of clothing color or the drink selected – can leave a positive impression. The halo effect also plays a role here: a well-groomed appearance and other prominent features can unconsciously project seemingly additional positive traits. He also highlighted how important it is to present oneself as competent and authentic during the conversation and how thorough preparation can convey a sense of high confidence.
