A weekend. Two schools. And a lot of team spirit

During the boarding school weekend – short IWO – all Torgelower stay in the dormitory. Instead of packing bags, it’s about experiencing, discovering, and growing together. This time, the weekend was entirely focused on a special highlight: the Champions League of team games.

Stylish ceremonial start

The Sharks from Kurpfalz boarding school arrived on Friday evening and were welcomed with a festive three-course meal in the cafeteria. All the students had dressed nicely, and together they ate, laughed, and celebrated. Afterward, they went to the disco in the Yellow House – but not for too long, because big challenges awaited the next morning.

Foxes vs. Sharks – the big duel

The Foxes of Schloss Torgelow, the reigning school champions from last year, faced off against the Sharks – last year’s winners from Bammental. Particularly exciting: Mario Lehmann, representative of both schools and long-time sponsor of the Sharks, fully supported the guest team once again – an electrifying reunion, as last year the Sharks had won the duel on home turf.

This year, the competition took place in Torgelow – and it was epic. Over two days, the teams competed against each other in 20 disciplines: from egg chess to cornhole, politics and Harry Potter quizzes, as well as football, volleyball, and of course, the legendary minibus pulling.

Each team contributed ten games – and the special scoring system kept it thrilling until the end. On Saturday, the Foxes were ahead, but on Sunday, the Sharks came perilously close. The decision was made in the very last game – badminton. The Foxes won and brought the trophy back to Lake Torgelower.

A scene to smirk at – and typical of Mario Lehmann: On Saturday evening, he, together with the Sharks, tied a rope around a lamppost to analyze the optimal order for pulling the bus. Tactics, teamwork, timing – it’s all a matter of preparation.

Mentoring on the go: Climbing, ceramics, and creativity

While games were being played on the sports field and in the gym, many other students were also on the move: The mentorship groups had a full program – with excursions to see the Blue Man Group in Berlin, to the beach in Warnemünde, to the climbing park “Felshelden,” or to the trampoline hall “Flip & Fly.”

Particularly popular: climbing in Warnemünde, where they overcame some heights they didn’t think they would be able to manage – and painting ceramics in the “Kunstbar” in Rostock. Among colors, brushes, and music, small artworks were created, which were taken back to Torgelow – as a reminder of a creative, relaxed togetherness.

Sunday: Team projects and talents

There was also a lot going on on campus on Sunday. While the last games of the team competition were taking place, numerous team projects and training sessions were held.

The seventh and eighth grades participated in dragon boat training at the dock. There were also sporting activities at the golf tournament, athletics training, tennis, judo, and volleyball. In addition, mini golf, baking with baker Bünger, horseback riding, photography, and other creative activities were on the agenda.

Two groups began their training for the motorboat license – starting with initial theory sessions and practical fundamentals. Those who preferred to use their minds instead of muscle power were in demand at the training camp for math talents at the University of Rostock.

In the afternoon, a mandatory study period was scheduled for grades 5 to 8 – a calm conclusion after an active weekend.

A weekend full of highlights

In the end, everyone agreed: This IWO had everything – excitement, style, sport, fun, and a strong sense of community. The atmosphere was great, and the duels were fair and intense. Both captains,

If you feel like guessing for yourself: Two games from the competition – “High Flyers” and “Mental Math” – can be found here. Just take a look and join in!
