Farewell to retirement – and to new paths in life

At the end of this school year, we bid farewell to six colleagues who have shaped Schloss Torgelow in many different ways over the years. They have taught, supported, listened, built up, shared, and contributed – and they all leave behind lasting impressions.

Dr. Beerbaum was a permanent part of our school for over three decades – a woman from the very beginning, who set standards with her professional brilliance and her unparalleled reliability. As the head of the Mathematics and Natural Sciences department, as an advanced course teacher, and as the initiator of the Junior Studies program with the University of Rostock, she made a significant impact. Despite a long commute of almost seventy kilometers, she was there every day with heart and conviction. She is regarded as the epitome of reliability – those who worked with her knew: what was discussed would be done. Her calm clarity, her loyalty to the school, and her commitment to each individual student will remain unforgettable.

Mr. Schreiter had a similarly significant impact, having worked for almost three decades first as a boarding school educator and then as a teacher of history and religion at our school. He was a colleague one could rely on – calm, educated, helpful, and with a fine sense of humor. In his role as a specialist, mentor, and long-time companion to many generations of students, he was a true foundation of our faculty. For many colleagues, he was the living internal school encyclopedia – always ready to offer advice or provide guidance with a calm voice.

Ms. Nützmann was part of the boarding school team for 23 years and was especially a steadfast and reliable point of contact for the younger students. She had a particular affection for the seventh and eighth grades, which she guided with loving consistency, patience, and great care through important developmental years. She had not only a good sense for people but also for spaces – her countless decorations at events in the boarding school shaped community life.

Mr. Meyer taught German and social studies for 17 years and quickly became a staple in the school community. His teaching was marked by current relevance, depth, and social interest. He was also passionately involved in business@school. His presence was as distinctive as his dancing style – for many, he was the Mick Jagger of Schloss Torgelow, a teacher with attitude, heart, and a sense of rhythm.

Mr. da Silva, who shaped the boarding school for over two decades, was a teacher, class advisor, tutor, and Cambridge expert – and above all, a strong personality with development. From initially being a strict educator, he became a compassionate companion over the years, seeking and maintaining contact with his students. His openness, honesty, and conversations will remain memorable for many.

Mrs. Shaik Omar was also a fixed part of the boarding school for over 21 years. For many, she was far more than an educator – she was a quiet hero of everyday life, a trusted person, a mother figure. Always approachable, always there when needed – reliable, loving, and strong. She understood the subtle nuances, had an eye for the unspoken, and a big heart for those who needed it the most. Her warmth, her quiet presence, and her sincere attentiveness have supported generations of students through their life at the boarding school.

Six personalities are leaving our school – with their stories, their marks, and their special strengths. We thank each and every one from the bottom of our hearts for their achievements, for the time shared, for their strength, their thoughts, and their contributions to the community at Schloss Torgelow. For what is to come, we wish them health, happiness, ease, and new fulfillment.

You remain a part of us. Thank you very much and see you soon.
