Success at the 31st Paper Bridge Competition in Wismar
In the summer, the 31st Paper Bridge Competition of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern took place on the campus of Wismar University – and Schloss Torgelow was once again very successful in participating.
This year, our students participated with a total of four bridges. The talented designers from our boarding school were: Henriette, Stephanie, Lisa, Oscar Wheatley, and Benedict.
The task was as clear as it was challenging: a bridge should be built from simple paper that was as stable as possible – with a maximum weight of 200 grams, a minimum length of 40 centimeters, and a maximum width of 10 centimeters. The ratio of its own weight to load capacity was crucial. And of course, the legendary little Trabant had to be able to drive safely over the bridge as well.
Testing was conducted in the Materials Testing Laboratory of Wismar University under the leadership of Prof. Kersten Latz. The competition took place as part of the “Day of Technology” and has a goal that perfectly fits our school concept: to inspire young people for technology, engineering sciences, and creative solutions.
We are pleased to announce that our Torgelower Bridges have once again achieved excellent results in the category up to 8th grade:
3rd place: Benedikt’s bridge – 195 grams own weight, impressive 18.6 kilograms load capacity. 2nd place: Oscar’s bridge – particularly light at only 133 grams and a load capacity of 21.2 kilograms.
A great success for our young engineers, who have worked with passion, team spirit, and a lot of skill.
We are incredibly proud of all of you!
And we are already looking forward to the next competition, to new creative structures, well-thought-out constructions, and exciting moments centered around paper, glue, and a lot of curiosity.
