In a globalized world, acquiring solid foreign language skills is of utmost importance. Therefore, we offer the opportunity to learn five different foreign languages at Schloss Torgelow: English, French, Latin, Spanish, and, upon request, Russian.
Language instruction for us is more than just the transfer of knowledge. We have made it our mission to introduce our students to the culture and way of life of other nations.
International students
At Schloss Torgelow, people from various nationalities and cultural backgrounds come together. We offer children and young people from abroad the opportunity to obtain their high school diploma in Germany or to improve their German language skills through our program “A School Year in Germany.”
The ease with which young people learn to think with a global perspective is crucial for their personal and professional development. In discussion groups, rhetoric courses, and workshops led by “native speakers,” our students learn to speak the foreign language fluently.
European Classroom
In the ninth grade, all students from Torgelow spend one third of the school year in England as part of our project “European Classroom.” They attend the Kingham Hill School near Oxford as regular boarding school students. This way, they improve their written and spoken English skills and get to know life at an English boarding school. During the remaining time of the ninth grade, we teach the ninth-grade curriculum in a compressed form in Torgelow, allowing our students to gain experience abroad without losing a school year in Germany.
Cambridge English Language Certificates
As one of the few schools in Germany, Schloss Torgelow is recognized as a test center by Cambridge Assessment English, an institute of the University of Cambridge. Since 2004, students from Torgelow have been able to obtain Cambridge English language certificates (Cambridge Preliminary, First, Advanced, and Proficiency) on-site. Long-standing experience, a high scientific standard, and strict regular monitoring of compliance with examination rules by Cambridge Assessment English ensure a high level of acceptance for the certificates worldwide when applying to universities and companies.
In high school, students have the additional opportunity to participate in a conference of the “United Nations” (THIMUN) in The Hague or at the World Youth Economic Forum (Shanghai). The international conferences offer great chances to apply the language skills acquired in Torgelow on the political world stage.
Further exchange programs – even over longer periods – and encounters with students and teachers from our partners in Argentina, Chile, England, and France, as well as the opportunity to obtain French and Spanish language certificates, are a valuable addition to our language program.
