Former students of the boarding school: Kirsten meets – Episode 5

Life can be so beautiful. And it is especially beautiful when you are entrusted with a task that brings joy, promises fun, moves you to tears, and gives you the opportunity to visit impressive personalities in their professional environment.

I, Kirsten Lehmann, have the opportunity to meet former graduates of Schloss Torgelow in the film series “Kirsten meets…” and visit them in their current lives.

What I experienced during my visits, what I learned about the different professional paths of former students, their goals, and their time at Schloss Torgelow, has been captured on camera by Jens Lange from “flamencofilm.” The resulting films are multifaceted, very personal, full of life, a bit “sentimental,” and there are one or two challenges for me to overcome.

Definitely check it out, mark it down, and celebrate with me. Have fun!

Episode 5: Kirsten meets…..Dr. rer. nat. Jane Beil-Wagner, molecular biologist at the University of Zurich.

Jane came to us at the Schloss Torgelow boarding school in the tenth grade from Berlin. During her time at the boarding school, she discovered and deepened her interest in biology and the natural sciences in her classes and in the team project “Applied Biology.” She was encouraged and supported in this by Dirk Seidelmann, the biology and chemistry teacher at the boarding school.

After her very good Abitur in 2005, the ambitious student studied molecular biology at the University of Salzburg and subsequently earned her doctorate at the Technical University of Munich. Today, Dr. Beil-Wagner conducts research on “immune diseases” at the University of Zurich and plans to start a startup based on her research findings.

I had the opportunity to visit Jane in the laboratory at the University of Zurich and discuss with her research and discovery, curiosity, solving puzzles, determination, the opportunities and limitations of science, and her time at Schloss Torgelow.

A film has emerged about Jane, about science, about artificial DNA, about deciphering secret messages, about visions, about courage and determination, about life and about arriving.

Dear Jane, it was an honor to visit you at the University of Zurich, and it was the fulfillment of a dream to work as a German and social studies teacher in a laboratory. Thank you for an unforgettable day filled with patience, trust, new insights, competence, loving gestures, warmth, and memories. I learned a lot. And yes, even if it was just one day, it feels like friendship. And that is beautiful.

Look forward to Episode 6: Kirsten meets… Lavinia Rosen in her pop-up gallery, the “kunstvoll-gallery,” with an exhibition by the artist David Friedemann in Hamburg. A film has been created about art, about change and search, about the “behind,” about independence, about idealism, about friendship, about teaching and learning, about finding and about love.
