Boarding School Schloss Torgelow on the way: Class Trip to Verchen at Lake Kummerow

Our class trip to Verchen at Lake Kummerow was a true highlight full of exciting experiences and unforgettable moments. Whether it was a rally, moor hike, fun olympics, or campfire – each day brought new highlights and shared experiences that will be remembered for a long time.

From September 29 to October 3, we, the 16 students of both 6th grades, went on a class trip to Verchen by the beautiful Kummerow Lake. We spent the last day of the trip in Torgelow by the lake and in Waren at Lake Müritz.

Day 1
After just 50 minutes on the bus, we arrived in the morning at the children’s and youth hotel in Verchen. Once we had moved into our rooms, we enjoyed a picnic on the terrace in beautiful sunshine. Refreshed and energized, we set off on a rally in which the team of Josi, Amalia, Sunny, Oscar, and Fritz scored the most points.
In the afternoon, we went on a treasure hunt to see whether class 6a or 6b could decipher the treasure map first and find the treasure. Class 6a showed true greatness: not only did they find the treasure first, but they even hid half of it again so that 6b could find a treasure as well—a real heartfelt moment!

Day 2
On day two, the fun olympics awaited us. Once again, classes 6a and 6b competed against each other. The goal was to master funny tasks – for example, pretzel eating competitions, water balloon volleyball, and of course, tug-of-war, in which even Ms. Genzel and Ms. Neumann participated. After a truly exciting competition, class 6b was able to hold the coveted trophy in their hands. In the afternoon, a moor hike with a ranger was scheduled. He could tell us a lot about the moor and the Peene River, but we also learned a lot through hopping, digging, and touching. We crossed the Peene River by ferry from Vorpommern to Mecklenburg. There we climbed an observation tower from which we looked over a water protection area and were able to observe various birds, even a kingfisher. Despite our weatherproof clothing, we looked forward to a hot chocolate at the café in the children’s and youth hotel. In the evening, after the barbecue, the next highlight followed: a torchlight hike to Lake Kummerow – truly mystical!

Day 3
On Wednesday, the question was again: Which team is the strongest? This time, the girls competed against the boys in various disciplines: Who can collect the most chestnuts in a limited time? (The boys) Who can recognize the songs the fastest? (The girls) Who can hang on the bar the longest? (The girls) Who can estimate better? (The boys) Who is faster and more skillful in the spoon race? (The girls) And who can solve the riddle and find the reward? (The boys)
After lunch, we drove to the Ivenacker Oaks, where we could marvel at oaks that are up to 1000 years old. The legend surrounding the stallion Herodot, who could sometimes hide inside the oaks – they are that big! – was particularly impressive. To better grasp the size, Rosa was allowed to get very close to the old oak. We were quite amazed – Rosa suddenly looked very small! Before we climbed the high treetop path, we strengthened ourselves with ice cream at the café. We were very lucky because from there, we could observe the deer up close. Upon reaching the top, we enjoyed a wonderful view. All in all, the Ivenacker Oaks are truly a sight to behold!
In the evening, we sat around the campfire with bread baked on a stick and marshmallows – really nice!

Day 4
On Thursday morning, the time had come: with our suitcases packed, we said goodbye to Lake Kummerow and returned to Lake Torgelow. And we stayed with the water theme: we visited the Müritzeum in Waren, marveled at the fish, and learned lots of interesting facts about the region’s nature. Of course, a visit to the bubble tea shop was a must. We spent our last evening together playing a heated game of “Who Am I?”.

Tag 5 After a delicious homemade breakfast of scrambled eggs and bacon, we traveled home on Friday morning with many wonderful impressions and beautiful memories of our class trip.
