Animal-themed great end of the school year – Classes 5 and 6 on the go
Actually, it’s almost a tradition: At the end of the school year, grades 5 and 6 visit the Müritzeum together for Nature and Environment Day. Unfortunately, this year’s date was so inconvenient that we needed a substitute. Where did we take our youngest students and why did it turn into a real adventure?
A suitable alternative was quickly found: the Zoo Rostock, one of the most species-rich and beautiful zoos in Germany. Over 4,500 animals, more than 320 species, a vast green park landscape – and plenty of space to marvel, learn, and roam around.
Everything was perfectly prepared: The school bus was booked, lunch packages were ready, and the mood was great. But then – the day before departure – the shock: The bus was defective. Chaos? No. Instead, there was a lightning-fast organization by the school office, support from our technical team with spontaneous driving services, and a train connection that was even on time.
Upon arriving at the zoo, the 5th and 6th grades embarked on an exciting Africa rally. They had to discover animal species, solve puzzles, and explore the various continents of the zoo attentively. From lions to giraffes to curious meerkats – the children not only learned a lot but also visibly enjoyed experiencing nature up close.
This year, they were additionally accompanied by the advanced biology class from the upper level, which took the opportunity to expand its knowledge – especially during the expert-led tour of the Polarium, where penguins, polar bears, and other inhabitants of the polar regions could be observed. For a brief moment, it truly felt “cool” – at least visually, as the outdoor temperatures remained tropical.
Despite the summer heat, spontaneous changes to the plan, and the small logistical challenge beforehand, the day was a complete success. Educational, varied – and above all, a wonderful joint conclusion before the holidays.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make this trip possible.
