Muttersöhnchen on the podium
The student newspaper competition in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern celebrated its 20th anniversary this school year. Organized by the State Information Office for Student Newspapers (LiSZ), the competition once again provided young journalists with a platform to showcase their creative and well-researched works. Our “Muttersöhnchen” was also part of it.
A specialist jury evaluated the submitted editions based on criteria such as topic diversity, journalistic quality, and creative design. [1] In total, 39 student newspapers from across the state participated in the competition – including 15 high schools with a print edition, such as our mother’s boy.
On March 5, some editors of our student newspaper, along with Ms. Neumann, made their way to Greifswald to participate in the festive award ceremony of the student newspaper competition in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The impressive auditorium of the University of Greifswald provided the perfect setting for this special event. After the opening and a welcome by Bettina Martin, Minister for Science, Culture, Federal and European Affairs, the main prizes in the various categories were awarded. From primary schools to special needs schools to regional schools and gymnasiums, the best three editorial teams in each category were delighted to receive prize money. There were 250 euros for third place, 350 euros for second place, and a proud 450 euros for the winner. In addition, numerous special awards were presented in specific categories.
With great anticipation, we waited for the results – and then it was time: The Muttersöhnchen achieved 3rd place in the “High Schools – Print” category! The joy was immense as we received the award and our prize money of 250 euros. A wonderful recognition of our hard work and dedication!
Inspiration and new ideas
After the awards ceremony, it continued with exciting workshops on topics such as layout, research, and media design. Particularly insightful was a seminar on the design app Canva, which we have recently started using for the layout of our student newspaper. Here, we received valuable tips and suggestions to better utilize our design possibilities.
Overall, it was an inspiring and educational day in Greifswald, where we not only celebrated our award but also brought back many new ideas and impressions for the next edition of Muttersöhnchen. We are already looking forward to putting our newly acquired knowledge into practice! Many thanks also to LiSZ for the great organization and to the photography team project for the beautiful winning photo!
