Outdoor Adventure builds nesting boxes for the bird world
Bird protection up close – that was the goal of our recent project as part of Outdoor Adventure under the direction of Mr. Wille. Together with students, unique birdhouses were created.
The project has built individual nesting aids for the birdlife at Torgelower See: for tits with a 23 mm entrance hole, half-cavities for species like redstarts and robins, and even a spacious owl box – in the hope that a tawny owl might take up residence.
The enthusiasm during the construction was great. There was sawing, screwing, sanding – and of course, a lot of heart went into the work. To observe how our feathered neighbors accepted the offerings, a wildlife camera was installed afterward. Already on the first day, it became clear: Our idea seems to be well received! A curious “lady” paid a visit to one of the new birdhouses – and directly caused a surprise. No one expected her…! The video sheds light on the unusual guest at first glance.
We are curious to see which birds will settle here in the coming weeks – and we hope that our campus will soon be filled with cheerful chirping.
