Recitation Competition 2025

At Schloss Torgelow, there are many cherished traditions. One of them has long been the recitation competition. On the Friday before the parent-teacher conference, it was once again time for it: the class winners from grade 5 to K1 competed in the Audimax for the final and recited self-selected poems in front of a large audience, as alongside the participants and their supporters from their classes, numerous teachers and also parents were present. The excitement among some finalists was certainly noticeable, as the students had to not just recite their poems, but to recite them in the best possible manner.

Right at the beginning, the youngest participant, Fritz Schnepf (class 5a), took the stage. It was remarkable how confidently Fritz presented the famous “Sorcerer’s Apprentice” by Johann Wolfgang Goethe. However, he was outdone by Benedict Friedland from 6b. His passionate and highly expressive interpretation of the same ballad earned thunderous applause from the audience and was unanimously deemed the highlight of the afternoon. Congratulations on the 1st place in the grade level 5-7! In 2nd and 3rd places were Saba Franke (6a) with a creative performance of “The Maggot” by Heinz Erhardt, and Anna Shashkova (6b) with the poem “Hope” by Friedrich Schiller. The jury noted that Anna has only been speaking German for 3 years, making her outstanding recitation of this classic text even more impressive.

The winner in the grade level 8-9 was Marlene Eska from 9a. She impressed with a scenic interpretation of the lesser-known Goethe poem “Vor Gericht.” Luna Brandstetter (9b) secured second place with a contemplative text about transience (“Es lebe das Leben” by Fridolin Schudi), and Tessa Bauer and Anna Baum from 8b shared third place, presenting Schiller’s poem “Sehnsucht” together.

In grades 8/9 it was very close, but the jury did not find the decision for grade 10-K1 as difficult, as everyone had Felix Falk (10c) with Goethe’s “Prometheus” in first place. Felix impressed with a very confident and expressive performance. Second place went to Marie Wolf (10a) with the poem “Maybe” by Rudolf Leonhard, and third place went to Maria Schimmel (10b) with Hoffmann von Fallersleben’s “The Thoughts are Free.”

Congratulations to all the winners, but also to all participants and the music students who bridged the waiting time before the award ceremony with their successful contributions. All in all, a wonderful afternoon in the spirit of poetry that will remain in the best memories of everyone involved and the audience.
