At Schloss Torgelow, we place great importance on educating our students to become socially responsible individuals. They should learn that it is important to engage for others, to be helpful, and to act socially responsibly. Therefore, in the daily life of the school and boarding school, we repeatedly involve our students in social tasks to shape the community at Schloss Torgelow together and to make responsibility for others tangible.

A community thrives on togetherness, and it is important that all students are willing to contribute to it. Therefore, each mentoring group in the boarding school takes on a responsibility for the community. The youngest students from the House of the Future are responsible for the small animal zoo, while the older ones take care of the library, run the juice shop, manage the disco, or organize regular film screenings in the cinema.

## Active in the Student Parliament

One way to actively engage in the school and boarding community is by taking on a role within the student council. Here, students can represent their interests as floor or student representatives in the weekly student parliament, contribute their ideas, and actively shape school and boarding life.

## Mentorships for younger and new students

Furthermore, our students take on responsibility as mentors for younger or new students and help weaker students as tutors to develop their potential. It is important to us that the students support each other, that they are there for one another, and that values such as empathy, responsibility, integrity, and reliability are truly practiced.

Students from the upper school also support our educational team as monitors and supervise the homework periods of the younger students during the weekly general conference.

## Student assistants in the house of the future

In the house of the future, older students have the opportunity to take on the role of big sisters or big brothers. As student assistants, they live with our youngest ones and support the adults in caring for the students. They organize sports events, provide school assistance, read a story at bedtime, and serve as advisors, comforters, and friends.

In addition to the student assistants, the graduates at Schloss Torgelow bear a special responsibility. They take on a role model function and demonstrate their ability to act reliably and think economically through the independent management of the student cafeteria, the “Candy Shop.” The revenue generated goes towards funding the annual graduation ball.

## Active for Sahel e.V.

With regular fundraising events, our students and staff support Sahel e. V., which operates children’s and youth facilities in Burkina Faso, one of the poorest countries in Africa.

The core of the boarding school community is the mentorship, where the students live. The mentors organize regular activities together with their students, where the feeling of community is the focus. Each mentorship takes on specific tasks that are responsibility managed by the students.

No. Our mentors pay attention to order and structure, but the rooms are maintained daily by our cleaning team.

At Schloss Torgelow, the students exercise their right to participate in the student parliament. It consists of the two elected student representatives who lead the meetings, and the elected mentor representatives. Here, issues are discussed and resolutions are passed, which are then presented to the management team and the teaching staff.

Yes. New students at Schloss Torgelow are assigned a mentor who supports them and advises them on all the questions that a new student may have. Regular mentor evenings are scheduled, where the community of “new students” spends time together with their experienced mentors. The mentoring system is organized by the student representatives.

Students in the 10th grade can apply for the position of a student assistant. The selected students will spend a school year living together with the youngest ones in the “House of the Future.” There, they take on the role of an older sister or brother. They act as contacts, check homework, read aloud, and organize games and fun activities.

Our A-level class K2 runs its own cafeteria, where snacks and drinks can be purchased during the day.
