Favorite month December

When December begins at the boarding school, something changes. The days become shorter, the light softer, and the anticipation a little bit greater. For me, this month is every year a magic of music, warmth, community, and loving gestures that fills our everyday life in a very special way.

A St. Nicholas Day full of moments

December always starts with a smile. St. Nicholas feels like a secret friend at the boarding school, surprising us in the mornings. Small sweets, shining eyes, and the feeling of being seen are a wonderful beginning to the Advent season.

A sound Advent calendar

In the school assembly, a musical or literary door opens each day. Students perform, sing, or read something aloud, creating a moment where everything stands still. It is the heart of our Advent and shows how much talent and sensitivity our youth possess.

Surprises for the classes

The classes also have their own Advent calendar. Every day, one class receives a sweet surprise. A small ritual that brings great joy and reminds us of how wonderful giving can be.

Rehearsals for the Christmas music hour

The rehearsals for the festive hour of music at the Georgenkirche in Waren are running in parallel. When the choir sings, the orchestra and soloists practice, and the church later resonates in candlelight, a moment is created that echoes for a long time. This hour is considered by many to be one of the highlights of the year.

Sporting traditions and family moments

A highlight is also the large Christmas volleyball tournament, where students compete alongside their parents. It is loud, fun, and wonderfully familial, bringing everyone together once again.

The Christmas market around the castle

Our Christmas market is a small wonder every year. Around the castle, there are lights, stalls, and steaming cups. It smells of waffles, cocoa, and punch. Above all, we are united by the good cause for which we are collecting. This combination of community and willingness to help makes the evening special.

Festive moments at the Christmas IWO

At the festive meal, the boarding family comes together. The adults serve the students, and the K2 group is planning a big party.

Secret Santa, crafting, cookies and cocoa

In the mentoring sessions, activities include weighing, crafting, singing, and laughing. It smells of freshly baked cookies and cocoa. The HdZ Kids create lovely, homemade gifts for their best friends. It is these small gestures that make December so special.

Team games, elections, and a touch of anticipation

The election of the student representatives also takes place during this time. Team games, singing Christmas carols together, and many little surprises bring the month to life. You can feel how strong the community is and how much warmth each person has.

The departure for the holidays

And then comes the moment when it becomes quiet. Suitcases roll across the courtyard, doors close, someone waves quickly somewhere. The anticipation of Christmas is in the air and accompanies every student home.

Christmas. Wonderful.
