Torgelow Castle
30 good reasons
30 good reasons for Torgelow Castle
Castle Torgelow is one of the best boarding schools in Germany – and for good reason. With small classes of a maximum of 12 students, we create optimal learning conditions for individual support and strong performance in the Abitur. Our educational concept combines excellent education with personal development and true community. Our 30 reasons illustrate why Castle Torgelow is an extraordinary choice for your child’s future.
Children and adolescents need values and guidance.
Not only a shift in values but also the loss of ideals shape our society. At Schloss Torgelow, we counteract this development day by day: commitment to performance, humanity, tolerance, and social responsibility.
Our classes never have more than 12 students.
We teach in classes with a maximum of 12 students. In the lessons, we have more time. Here, each individual is not only challenged but also supported in a very individualized manner. This allows us to inspire students for what is worth knowing.
12 years of school until the Abitur
At Torgelow Castle, we have been gaining experience with the Abitur after 12 years of schooling since 1994. Our students demonstrate with their outstanding performance in the Abitur that it is important “how” you learn, not “how long” you learn.
More high school diploma instead of just a diploma.
We challenge our students, expect their commitment, and show them the path to a successful future already in school. Those who expect more from “school” will find the challenge they are looking for with us.
Modern teaching with interactive smartboards.
Our tableless classrooms are equipped with innovative smartboard, projector, and computer technology. Modern presentation techniques, interactive collaboration, and safe handling of modern media are second nature to our students!
Living in a strong community
At Torgelow Castle, younger and older students, girls and boys have their own living areas: the mentorates. The students of the upper school live in the restored castle and in the half-timbered rooms of the Yellow House, while spacious living areas are available in the modern boarding school houses for the middle school.
A house of their own for the little ones
The House of the Future is reserved for grades 5 to 7. Here, they have a very special, age-appropriate living space filled with a lot of play and fun. A slide spanning three stories, a playroom, and a cinema are just as much a part of it as an engaged mentor team that makes Castle Torgelow a second home.
Understand talent as an opportunity.
Gifted students find their place in the Torgelow community. We challenge them, nurture their talents, and appreciate their uniqueness. Here, they receive the recognition and appreciation they deserve.
Mastering foreign languages with confidence
At Schloss Torgelow, we offer six foreign languages: English, French, Latin, Spanish, and, upon request, Russian and Chinese. Here, our students not only learn the language but also lay the foundation for cultural understanding of other nations.
Learning in the European Classroom
In the 9th grade, all students from Torgelow spend a third of the school year at the English boarding school “Kingham Hill School.” In the English school community, they gain practical language experience, make international friendships, and learn about English culture.
Cambridge ESOL certificates as a gateway to studying abroad.
As the only high school in Germany, we are an “Internal Test Centre” of Cambridge University, England. Obtaining the globally recognized ESOL language certificates FCE, CAE, and CPE provides the gateway to studying abroad.
A dedicated team
In the Torgelow climate, children and teenagers feel comfortable. The students sense every day that the adults they live and work with enjoy being with them and that they take pleasure in their roles as teachers, mentors or trainers, workshop leaders, caretakers, or cooks. This fundamental atmosphere ensures that everyone feels understood.
Teachers in Torgelow don’t have a profession, but a calling.
A special school needs special teachers: committed, motivated, and willing to see their profession as a calling. As a seminar school of the state, we therefore train the teachers who will later strengthen our team.
At Torgelow Castle, one may be proud of its achievements.
We want our students to be proud of their achievements. Positive feedback is therefore very important to us in order to motivate our students to give their best. They should be proud of what they have accomplished and set goals for the future.
We support young entrepreneurs.
In the upper grades, our students participate in the business@school competition organized by the Boston Consulting Group as part of their Economics subject. Here, they learn economic thinking and develop their own business idea until it is ready for the market.
70 leisure projects every week
In more than 70 extracurricular projects, students from Torgelow find tangible counterbalances to intellectual work. Therefore, sports, crafts, and entertainment hold a high value at Torgelow Castle. Here, everyone finds an activity that they enjoy.
Think as a team.
Torgelower students work on cross-class team projects. They belong to a sports team, create a music performance, conduct research, or make their own video clips. Here, they show team spirit and are part of a strong community.
Know your own strengths.
We place special emphasis on the development of a professional outlook. Internships, career counseling, and regular lectures are part of the school program. Workshops or weekly high school projects provide additional qualifications in business administration, law, memory techniques, biology, or rhetoric.
Planning the career
At our Career Day, we invite the most prominent public and private universities to connect with our students. Here, we provide them with guidance and advice in selecting the right university.
Successes in Memory Training
Schloss Torgelow is the most successful school in memory sports worldwide. Our students have already demonstrated their skills in numerous competitions and television shows such as “Wetten dass…,” “Deutschlands Superhirn,” “Grips Show,” and “Klein gegen Groß.” We are very proud of their accomplishments.
Warmth and security in a strong community
In addition to the teachers, pedagogically trained mentors supervise the children and adolescents around the clock. They are there for the children and adolescents day and night, help with problems, ensure order and behavior, and provide support and advice.
Take responsibility for others.
As mentors, older students take responsibility for younger students or provide tutoring as répétiteurs. In the student parliament, while implementing social projects, or as student assistants in the House of the Future, our students take on responsibilities in school and boarding.
Life in pristine nature
Away from the hustle and bustle of the big city, Torgelow Castle is situated right by Lake Torgelow in one of the most beautiful landscapes in Germany. Swimming, sailing, surfing, fishing, rowing, and canoeing are simply part of life for the people of Torgelow.
Sports as a tangible counterbalance to mental work.
The stadium with artificial turf and a track, the small field sports pitch, the tennis court, as well as the large sports hall, the gym, and the dance studio with a mirrored wall offer a variety of opportunities to be active and to exert oneself.
Learning to play an instrument.
More than two-thirds of our students learn an instrument. They play in the school band, in an instrumental group, or sing in the castle choir. Several instrumental and vocal teachers provide individual music lessons at a high level.
Castle bus on weekends to Berlin and Hamburg.
Torgelow Castle is a school for Germany. The good connection with our castle bus to Berlin and Hamburg offers numerous connections to all German cities. Currently, students from 15 federal states and from abroad attend the boarding school.
Weekends with family or at boarding school
Those who wish can go home and spend the weekend with their family. Those who prefer to stay in the boarding school can take advantage of the varied weekend activities. On six weekends a year, all students stay in the boarding school. During these weekends, cultural events, sports competitions, and creative projects are on the agenda.
Castle Torgelow strengthens communication skills.
In a strong community, our students acquire high communication skills. They learn to assert themselves within the community, take on social responsibility, and act as team players.
Friends for life
At Schloss Torgelow, children and young people find friends for life. Even after graduation, our alumni form a strong community. Regular meetings strengthen cohesion and provide a strong network for the future.
A boarding school in family ownership.
Kirsten and Mario Lehmann run the private boarding school Schloss Torgelow and the Kurpfalz boarding school, founded in 1961, in Bammental near Heidelberg in the third generation with a personal touch. They would be happy to offer you the opportunity to meet them for a personal conversation.
